Support Along the Route
> Route Markings We make every effort to ensure you won't get lost. The routes will be clearly marked with directional signs, including on straightaways, so you will know you're riding in the right direction.
> Route Closing: 6 PM Saturday, 5 PM Sunday
The Bike MS route will close at 6 PM on Saturday and 5 PM on Sunday. We will make every effort to work with you to complete the ride. All cyclists on the road after 6 PM on Saturday and 5 PM on Sunday must take a SAG to the finish line.
> SAG Vehicles Just can't push another pedal, or just need a ride to the next stop? These trucks & SUVs rove the route and rest stops. Call the number on your wristband and look for the first SAG to come your way. Give the thumbs-down signal if you want to be picked up. You and your bike will be transported.
NOTE: The trip into the finish line is not always direct. Be patient as we pick up other cyclists in need. If you only want a ride to the next rest stop, let the driver know. Always remember to thank your driver, who is volunteering his or her time for the weekend to support you.
> Personal SAG Vehicles PROHIBITED Personal SAG vehicles are not permitted on the route. Please understand our need to cut down on vehicular traffic for YOUR SAFETY. Bicycle tagalongs, trailers and carriers are not allowed on the route.
> Mechanical Support Visit one of the bike shops listed on the Bike Shops page to receive your Bike MS inspection sticker which will ensure you and your bike are ready for Bike MS! Bike Safety Inspections are provided at NO COST. With this sticker, you are eligible for FREE labor (parts and materials are available for an extra charge) if you need any mechanical repairs during the event.
Get your bike inspected prior to ride weekend to identify major issues. Sponsoring Bike Shops will provide minor repairs on the road and on rest stops ride weekend. Check out the Bike Shops page to see our partners.
Mechanical Problems: If you encounter a mechanical problem while riding and need assistance, move completely off to the side of the road and call the number on your wristband for assistance.

Camping
Camping at Union Point Park is available on a first come, first served basis. Camping reservations open at 3 PM on Friday, September 9th. When you arrive visit a volunteer at the Entertainment Tent at Union Point Park. Campers will be assigned a number on a small flag. Place this flag outside of your tent. This reserves your spot and also allows us to know how to find you in case of emergency.
Showers & Electricity:
Showers: A shower truck will be on site from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon for anyone wishing to rinse off. Please remember to bring your own toiletries and towels.
Electricity: There are electrical outlets throughout the park to use to charge devices.
Camping is also available nearby at New Bern KOA Holiday (1565 B Street New Bern, NC 28560).
Bike Lock-Up: A bike lock-up is provided from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning for cyclists riding in Bike MS: Historic New Bern. This is located on the second floor of the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. When dropping off your bike, your bike must have the required frame tag to verify with your bib number. This bike lock-up will be staffed with volunteers throughout the day and locked securely overnight. You do not need to bring your own lock to lock up your bike within the bike lock-up.
We know it takes many people to pull this ride together. From the volunteers, to the donors who write the checks, to the family members who support cyclists’ training and fundraising, to those with MS who motivate and inspire… so many individuals working together toward a world free of MS. And what better way to celebrate a team’s accomplishment than to gather these individuals under one tent at the ride to toast a team’s victory! The Team Tent Village is one of the best parts of the Bike MS experience!
Renting vs BYOT (Bring your own tent):
Whether you are renting or bringing a tent to Union Point Park, please reach out to Scott.Zargo@nmss.org to reserve a spot in the Village.
RENT: To have a tent installed for you in the Team Tent Village in Union Point Park, please contact Brenda Goodwin at Country Aire Tent Rentals at 252-247-0117. Pricing for tent rentals is from $150 to $300 depending on the tent size. Tent rental sizes range from 10’x10’, 15’x15’, to 20’x20’. Make sure you identify that you will be part of Bike MS New Bern from Sept. 9 – 11 this year.
BRING: Teams are welcomed to bring their own pop-up tent free of charge. Please make sure you have a way of securing the tent safely to the ground and bring your own tables and chairs. While there is no charge to bring your own, please reserve a spot with Scott.Zargo@nmss.org.
Electricity & Food:
Electricity: There are outlets throughout Union Point Park in case you need to charge devices.
Food: There are charcoal grills throughout Union Point Park that teams can use to grill up food. You may also bring your own grill but please leave the area like you found it and clean up all trash afterwards.
