Frozen pipes and Covid won't stop me!
It's been a challenging few months recently.
First, I contracted Covid in November. While the illness itself was no big deal--I kept riding my bike during it--it seems to have taken its toll on my MS. I estimate that I've lost nearly ten years of progress against what Teri Garr accurately calls this "scum-sucking pig of a disease". My walking and balance took a serious hit, as did my overall strength.
Second, Vineyard Square Hotel, which sponsors our team, was damaged when pipes burst during the Big Freeze in February. (See the team page for more info.)
I am, to paraphrase St. Paul, "afflicted but not crushed, perplexed but not despairing". I'm pushing ahead with the ride as usual (although I might regress to the 30 or even 18 mile route depending on how I feel on ride day) and begging for support as usual. That's where you come in.
You can participate in a few ways:
- Give to support my ride financially. Click the "Donate" button above.
- Ride with us. Yes, you too can be a Square Wheeler! Just register for the ride and choose the Vineyard Square Wheelers as your team.
- Come down to the Vineyard to cheer us on. Our sponsor, Vineyard Square Hotel and Suites, gives us a substantial discount for our stay at their fabulous hotel for the weekend. Contact me and I'll give you details. (This is up in the air as of this writing because of the damage sustained at the hotel as mentioned above.)
Thank you for all your support through the years. I take none of you and none of your gifts for granted.
God bless you!
