Honoree
John G. Most
Tonight’s honoree, John Most, has been an integral part of the fight against MS for 30 years. It started for John when his first wife Debby was diagnosed in 1992 with an advanced form of Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
He has been an MS Bike Top Fundraising Rider for 25 years; Team Captain and Ride Marshall; MS Walk Top Fundraising Team Captain for 9 years and two-time 50-mile Challenge Walker and Volunteer. John also led the Orange County Chapter for four years as Chair of the Board of Trustees including the initial merger planning into what is now the Pacific South Coast Chapter. John even named the newly formed Chapter.
Sadly, Debby lost her battle in 2003 at the age of 49 but rather than taking a reduced role, John stepped it up, becoming the Chair of the MS Bike Planning Committee for the next 16 years. This year marks his 25th ride for Debby nearing $2.0 million in fundraising.
In addition, John was the founder of the MS Band of Hope wrist band. With friend and co-founder Blake Von Sprecken, they sold over $1.7 million of the originally red bands in the first year alone: all proceeds going directly to MS Research. John and Blake were recognized by the Orange County Chapter in 2005 as Volunteers of the Year.
That same year, John was inducted into the National MS Society’s Circle of Distinction for raising his “first Million” for MS. In 2014, John and his Ad Agency were recognized as the Outstanding Small Business on National Philanthropy Day by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for his many years of pro bono work for the MS Society.
His greatest pride, however, is his wife Jodi’s amazing commitment to the MS Mission and how she continues to champion Debby’s battle as if it was her own.
When it comes to remembering Debby and his life with Jodi, John simply remarks that he “Got lucky twice”. And in looking back on it all, you’ll often hear him remark, “How Lucky Am I”.
