I live with MS...I ride with MS
Why do I ride the MS bike ride? Because I'm fortunate enough to be able to. I've been diagnosed with MS for 22 years now but had my first major attack 32 years ago. It hit me so hard I couldn't walk or even feed myself. MS is tough, I'm experiencing this first hand plus seeing the devastation of MS through all my friends with MS...good people.
Through exercise, I was fortunate enough to recover at a level I could run, bike, swim, hike, etc. The National MS Society has funded many exercise research programs and it's now scientifically proven that exercise does not make your MS worse even if the symptoms feel like it does while you're exercising. In fact, it helps us living with MS more than anything else I've experienced.
After being able to barely walk for a year and a half, I was fortunate enough to finish three of four attempts at the Ironman distance triathlons, run 6 marathons, hike the Grand Canyon, do several 100+ mile bike rides per year, etc. I'm grateful and feel blessed.
This will be my 18th consecutive year of riding the MS bike ride. Last year, I rode three 100+ mile rides...yes, even after living with MS for 22 years, actually 32 years. This year at age 61, I already rode (1) 100 mile ride and plan to ride more. I'm personally doing my best to stay ahead of it and hopefully inspiring others along the way.
I will do the best I can to get as many people with MS joining me on the ride again this year along with friends and family. We will be riding for everyone with MS that wishes they could ride but can't.
How can you help? Please consider joining us on our Peppy Pedaler's team this year and ride with some big hearted, inspirational people.
If you're willing and able, please make a donation to support me on this ride. Please keep me and everyone with MS in your prayers.
I’ve set an ambitious goal because we need to get this MS thing figured out. I'm trying to do my part.
MS is a devastating, unpredictable disease. Money raised through Bike MS fuels cutting-edge MS research and critical services to ensure people affected by MS have the resources they need to live their best lives.
Please help me reach my goal.
Thanks so much!
